Every Mississippi resident operating a motor vehicle on public streets and highways in Mississippi needs an unexpired driver's license.

If you moved to Mississippi, you need to obtain a Mississippi driver's license within 60 days of moving. If you hold a valid out-of-state license, you are not required to take a written or skill test. However, if you want to convert to Mississippi license, you must surrender your out-of-state license.

To obtain a Mississippi Learner's Permit, you need to be at least 15 years old. You must clear a vision test, knowledge test and pay the required fee to receive your Learner's Permit . To get your Drivers License, you need demonstrate satisfactory operation of a motor vehicle and clear any physical or mental examination the DMV may find necessary to gauge your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

Note: You can also get a restricted Learner's Permit at 14 and ½ years of age. For the 14 ½ year old learner's permit you must be able to provide proof of being enrolled in a driver's education program from the school that you are attending.

An international license holder must obtain a Mississippi license after moving to the state for permanent residency or full time job. Vision test, written test, and driving test are required to be able to obtain Mississippi driver's license.

1. Birth Certificate issued by state or federal authority
2. US Passport/ Resident Alien Card / Valid Foreign Passport with a valid United States Immigration Document
3. Social Security Card
4. Proof of residence address, such as a bank statement, utility bill, or pay stub.
5. Payment for application fee.
6. Applicants transferring an Out of State driver license must present their Out of State driver license, Social Security card (or one of the other acceptable documents for social security number) AND one other form from the “Primary Listing”.

After getting your permit, when you start learning driving, you must be accompanied by someone of at least 21 years of age, with a valid license, and have at least one year of driving experience for the same type or class of vehicle you are driving. A certified driving instructor may also accompany you. The person must be seated in the car on the passenger seat next to you.
