Regardless of your age, if you have never been licensed or do not have proof of past driving experience, you must hold your beginner's permit 1for 180 days before being eligible for a driver's license

If you are a n international license holder of moving to the state for permanent residency or full time job, you are eligible to obtain a SC license. You must also submit a valid driver's license from your country of origin as proof of prior driving experience. If you cannot show proof of prior driving experience, you must first obtain a beginner's permit and hold it for 180 days before applying for a driver's license.

If you are under 18 years of age, you must have a parent or legal guardian sign your application. To apply for a Special Restricted Driver's license, you must be 16 years of age and have held your beginner's permit for at least 180 days or have a conditional license. If you are at least 17 years old and have held a beginner's permit for 180 days, you are eligible for a regular SC driver's license.

1. Birth Certificate issued by state or federal authority
2. US Passport/ Resident Alien Card / Valid Foreign Passport with a valid United States Immigration Document
3. Social Security Card
4. Proof of residence address, such as a bank statement, utility bill, or pay stub.
5. Payment for application fee .
6. Applicants transferring an Out of State driver license must present their Out of State driver license, Social Security card (or one of the other acceptable documents for social security number) AND one other form from the “Primary Listing”.

After getting your permit, when you start learning driving, you must be accompanied by an experienced driver to supervise your driving. You must be accompanied by someone of at least 21 years of age, with a valid license for at least 1 year . A certified driving instructor may also accompany you.
